District Administration congratulates Jayshree Patra for World Championship in Yoga.

Jayshree Patra 15 years from Uttar Fatak Burdwan, World Champion in Yoga at Bangkok, being feliciated at Republic Day function at Burdwan

The news item as reproduced below was published on June 2012. This is related to one young Girl from Burdwan who got nomination to World Yoga Championship but was facing financial problems and almost gave up her dream. Her father approached District Administration for financial assistance to meet the expenses for participation fees of Rs 75000 and air fare for the talented girl.
When I met the girl, she assured with full confidence that she will win Gold. We arranged funds, some from Burdwan District Sports Association welfare funds and rest from other sources including sponsoring by reputed organisations. We are really happy to know that this young girl won Gold in one event and 2nd position on other category in World Championship.
We felicitated her on Republic day along with 17 others who performed best in their respective fields. We wish Jayshree Patra all the best for success and hope she gets chance in Asian/ Olympics in future. Team Burdwan wishes her all success.

BURDWAN, 21 JUNE: Burdwan district administration came to the rescue of the youngsters who were about to miss International Sports meet to be held at Singapore, due to want of funds.
Fourteen-year-old Jayashree Patra of Burdwan town is a national title winner of Yoga. She has been selected to take part in Yoga World Cup to be held in Singapore in November this year. Jayashree had lost all hopes of pursuing her dreams as her family didn't have enough financial backing to help her, but the district administration responded at the right time by providing her with the right amount.
Sourav Tiwari (14), a resident of Mithapukur locality in Burdwan, was selected to take part in a Throw ball championship along with contestants from five countries ~ India, Sri Lanka, Canada, Bangladesh and South Africa. Sourav was also plagued by the same problem of financial crisis and he had almost left the hope of making it to Singapore. Both Jayashree and Sourav required Rs 75,000 each for the purpose. The district administration woke up after The Statesman brought the matter to light. The DM, Burdwan, Mr Onkar S Meena said today: “The district administration, with the help of some sponsors, has managed to arrange two-third of their individual expenses which would help them take part in the games.” "
