Sub divisional level meeting with All Schools to be held from 16th August to review Educational Schemes

District administration Burdwan started the system of Meetings with heads of schools at Sub division level from 2012-13 session with first rounds of review meetings held in April-May 2012. In these meetings detailed review on Sarva Siksha Mission, Right to Education Act, Mid Day Meal, Educational grants to students of ST, SC, OBC and minorities, Computerisation of schools and development schemes to education sector were discussed thoroughly. We got very good response from schools and looking forward for regular meetings which have been mutually helpful to all.

Next round of meetings will be start from 16th August 2012 at Asansol and ends on 24th August 2012 covering one day at each Sub divisional HQ.

16th August Asansol, 17th Durgapur, 22nd Sadar, 23rd Kalna and 24th Katwa are the dates.

All Schools, Officers of Education, Mid day meal, Minority, BCW and SSK/MSK at block and district level will attend the day long meeting. MLAs, Sabhapaties, BDOs, SDOs and Municipal authorities of the concerned Subdivisions have also been invited.

PWD has been asked to repair all the major roads where Public Transport is affected

Most of the roads in the district under the control of PWD, PMGSY and other authorities has been repaired recently in pursuance to issues raised and reviewed in Sub divisional and District level Development Review Meetings. However, the conditions of some of the roads has become beyond repair technically due to damage of sub soil structure and only solution is thorough renovation and strengthening. For example, State Highway from Burdwan to Bankura More - Khnadghosh, STKK after Katwa up to Nerole and towards Dainhat, Guskara Ausgram road, Road leading to Ramjibanpur and Asansol Niyamatpur Salanpur Road. What can be done?
Only option in short run is the pothole repair, with repetition of the work after every month till monsoon season is over and thereafter thorough maintenance work including strengthening and widening of the road. The condition of sub soil has deteriorated too the extent that any patch work/ pothole repair can't bear the heavy load of traffic. PWD made physical verification of all these roads and has completed/ on completion of patch work to make it motor able. Funds for permanent maintenance has been sanctioned and work orders issued for Bankura More Khandghosh road, Guskara- Ausgram Road, Asansol Salanpur Road and that for STKK is under consideration with finance department. We need to wait for monsoon to be over for permanent restoration and help PWD authorities for pothole repairs.

MGNREGA : Burdwan recorded highest ever expenditure since inception

• After performing the best in 2011-12 financial year under MGNREGA, Burdwan is continuing good progress in both expenditure and man days creation in first quarter of 2012-13. As per the preliminary reports as on 31st July 2012, the district spent Rs 220 crores creating man days of 124 lakhs. We could add Rs 62 crores in last month itself whereas the man days added by 32 lakhs
• Monthly expenditure in April was Rs.45.92 crores, that increased to Rs. 49.48 crores in May and Rs. 61.91 crores in June 2012. Similarly, monthly man days creation was 25.03 lakhs in April, 29.67 lakhs in May and 36.22 lakhs in June 2012.
• In first three months Burdwan district spent Rs 158 crores which is the record expenditure in first quarter of any financial year since inception and expenditure in four months is Rs 220 crores with creation of 124 lakhs mandays that is also the record achievement by any district since inception.
• Last year, district crossed Rs 100 crores only in November and man days of 90 lakhs crossed in December 2012. Later, annual achievement was Rs 359 crores and 190 lakhs mandays in 2011-12.
• In last seven months, district could generate man days of 232 lakhs which is highest in the country and record for Burdwan district itself. Expenditure during last seven months is Rs. 437 crores.
